Watch our videos to find out about the new and non-traditional qualifications an increasing number of students are using to enter higher education.

The qualifications landscape for university admissions is currently undergoing significant change. In recent years, an increasing number of students have been entering higher education with new or less traditional qualifications. We produced a series of videos to explain the various non-traditional qualifications and the implications for transition to higher education.

The changes have created challenges for universities in understanding the value of the learning, assessment and qualifications that some students have taken prior to entering higher education. Advisers also want to ensure their students are given accurate advice to help them achieve their progression aspirations.

We initiated a project called Progression pathways to address these challenges - you can read our discussion paper capturing the lessons learned and observations made in our  report

We have used the project’s findings to enhance the information and advice we give to students when making qualification choices. The student resources include:

  1. Animation describing each qualification type.
  2. Three case study videos looking at the experiences of current students.
  3. Online quiz to help students explore what qualification pathway may be suitable for them.
